A Weekend Trip to Udaipur with the Fam

On my parent’s twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, I and my sister planned to gift a weekend holiday to our parents. And of course, we would also join them.

So after days of searching and planning, we finalised on Udaipur. We booked a small but beautiful boutique hotel near Lake Pichola. Next came how to travel. Up until now, we have never gone on a road trip, so we decided to pamper our adventurous soul and finally tick off a road trip from our bucket list.

We planned to book a top-rated cab from Jaipur to Udaipur. But my father was a bit apprehensive about the reliability and safety factor. So we searched the internet and read reviews on how to avail a trusted Udaipur car rental. Savaari stood out as the obvious choice according to our requirements. So we contacted them and their representative asked our itinerary and offered a package and a driver according to our needs.

Overview and Daily Activities

We had planned to travel during the night to save time and make the most of our weekend trip. Our taxi from Savaari arrived promptly at eleven in the night as decided. The driver was courteous and even helped us load our luggage in the boot of the car. Being a female, I appreciated the clean interiors and the fresh smell of the car.

After discussing our itinerary again with the driver, we took off by taking NH8 towards Udaipur. After some chit-chat, we all dozed off one by one. We were woken up when the driver halted at Rajsamand Lake as pre-decided. The early morning breeze and the beauty of the lake were mesmerizing. The rising sun, red skyline, lake water and the quiet all painted a heavenly picture. After taking our fill, we moved on towards Udaipur.

It took us hardly one hour to reach Udaipur from Rajsamand. We checked into our beautiful hotel with the mesmerizing view of the Lake Pichola. After getting fresh, we planned to start our Udaipur sightseeing. We felt relaxed in the comfortable taxi and were not tired even after the journey, all thanks to our reliable driver and his smooth driving.

So after a light breakfast, we headed to the City Palace. We took a ferry to take us for a ride in the Lake Pichola. The lake’s clear water and blue sky was very calming. The resplendent view of Taj Lake Palace was also amazing. The boat dropped us at the Jagmandir. We were amazed to see the luxurious gardens, with trees growing on the marble structure in a lake. We rested for some time under the trees and had a light lunch in a café in the garden. Then took a ferry back to the City Palace.

Next was Bagore ki Haveli, where we saw some performances by artists showcasing the rich culture of Rajasthan. We came out and spent some time on the Gangaur Ghat, surrounded by the chatter of all the other tourists. Next, we went to the Sajjangarh Fort or the Monsoon Palace. The sunset there painted the sky with different hues of orange and red, which was indeed beautiful.

As it was my parent’s wedding anniversary, we decided to celebrate it in on one of the rooftop restaurants. Scrumptious food with a great view of the lake made the day more memorable for all of us.

We started the next day with a visit to the Saheliyon Ki Baari. A stunning garden, constructed by joining several gardens together for the princess and her friends. The garden had several lotus ponds, natural fountains, verdant greenery and stone statues of elephants and lions. We visited the City Palace again but this time to view it from the inside. The Diwan-E-Khaz was very impressive, with many incredible things to see.

A holiday is incomplete without shopping, so our next stop was Hathi Pol, where we bought some beautiful craft pieces and bandini dupattas. Though we get similar stuff in Jaipur, what’s a vacation without any souvenirs. After having an early dinner, we started our journey back to Jaipur, saying goodbye to the City of Lakes.
