Great History
Jaisamand lake is also known as Dhebar lake was built in 17 century by Maharana Jai Singh. This lake was built while making a damn on the river Gomti, this lake remained the largest artificial lake in the world till the building of the Aswan dam in Egypt. Originally it was constructed in 1960-1970, during the ruling period of Maharana Jai Singh. In that period there was a great need of water for cultivation in Mewar’s Southeastern Corner.
For fulfilling this need Maharana built a dam in Gomati river, which was also a huge embankment. And later on, Jai Singh named the lake Jaisamand after himself. This lake is often nicknamed as an ocean of victory; as ‘mand’ means ocean. On the day of its inauguration, Maharana Jai Singh walked around the dam and charitably distributed gold equal to his own weight.
Enormous Statistics
The lake is 14 km in breadth, 102 feet (31 m) deep at its deepest end, and has a circumference of 48 km. There are three islands; the two bigger island are known as Baba ka Magra and the smaller island is called Piari. The lake has bund which is 1,202 feet long, 116 feet high and 70 feet broad at the base. On the dam, there are six exotic cenotaphs and at the northern end of the lake, it has a palace with a courtyard, while in the southern end it has a pavilion of 12 pillars. The lake covers the area of 36 square miles.

Also, the lake has a very big damn which has a Shiva Temple, which is worshiped by locals and was constructed by kings of Mewar.
